Inec has implemented administrative recommendations for 2023 elections – Jacobu

The Independent National Election Commission (Inec) has implemented all administrative recommendations made by the Economic Community of the Observation Mission of the West African State Election (EOM) (EOM) after the 2023 General Election.

Chairperson Inec, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, revealed this on Tuesday in Abuja during the meeting with a follow-up post-election and the mission of evaluating the needs of the Ecowas Election Commission (ECONEC) network.

The Econec mission was led by the Chairperson of the Liberia National Election Commission (NEC), Ny. Davidetta Browne-Lansanah, to assess the implementation of EOM 2023 reports.

Jacobu stated that of the 37 recommendations made by the Ecowas mission, 13 specifically addressed to Inec.

He added that the remaining 24 were directed at other major institutions, including the National Assembly, the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), and political parties.

Other stakeholders, according to him, including the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), the Civil Society Organization, the Nigerian Journalist (NUJ) and the Advisory Council (IPAC).

“Of the 13 observations specifically addressed to Inec, the commission has considered all recommendations that require administrative action to be implemented.

“We are waiting for conclusions from the ongoing legal review by the National Assembly on aspects of recommendations that require legislative intervention.

“The commission has also prepared a detailed response to each of 13 observations.

“Most observations have been contained in our 142 recommendations for election reforms, which result from broad consultations with important institutions and stakeholders, and that information is on our website.

“Reporting reports, as well as the main 2023 general election report and other related documents, are also available on our website,” Chairperson Inec stated.
