Afrobasket: Camerun d’Uncress Whip to reach the semifinal

The six times champions, of Tigress of Nigeria, have moved on to the semifinals of the 2025 women’s Afrobasket tournament by defeating Cameroon 83-47 and keeping their title defense campaign alive.

The victory extends their race unbeaten in Africa at 27, dating back to 2015, bringing them closer to a fifth record title in a row. Only Senegal has reached the current Nigeria company of four.
Jessica Thomas and Maria Ewodo started the Leonesse indomitable at 4-0 with their hot hands, but that was the only domain to have been liked once the MVP Amy Okonkwo obtained the champions in defense on the scoreboard with a free shot.

With a jump shot by Elizabeth Balogun, Rena Wakama’s team took the command at 5-4, going to 8-0 in the last 2:40 to lead 21-9.

Cameroon has adapted on both ends of the floor to combine Nigeria with 20 points in the second quarter. The collapse of the first quarter saw them follow 41-29 in half time.

However, a 25-2 race in the third quarter marked the fate of the bronze medals of 2021, making the advantage of 16-14 in the fourth quarter too little, too late.
After the game, Murjanaty Musa said; “We played like a team, enjoying the game by doing what we do best, and this is the result. We feel very well in going back to the semifinal. We will do our best to get to the finals. We know them and we know each other. We just have to do our things and see what happens at the end.”
