The former Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye, has increased concerns about the deepening of economic difficulties in Nigeria, describing the current situation as that has never happened before and worsened under the administration of the President of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Speaking of today’s politics, a television program that aired on Friday, Melaye deplored the increasing level of hunger throughout the country, especially in rural areas, where he said citizens switched to find food.
“We are in a dangerous situation in this country as we have never done,” he said. “It has never been this disaster. Hunger in this country is rented; people are dying because of malnutrition in rural communities. People start visiting the garbage center to find crumbs.”
He told despair in many local communities, noting that the announcement of food distribution often resulted in chaos. “Follow the trip to your village and announce that you want to share rice bags. If you are not careful, there will be victims because the struggle is only one or two cans of rice,” he added.

Melaye criticized the current government, led by all Progressives Congress (APC), because it failed to map clear paths for the nation. “This government does not lead us properly. The possibility of achieving goals under this government does not exist,” he said.
The former Senator, who was just defected from the Democratic Party (PDP) of the people to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), said his decision was driven by the desire to align with others who were worried about the determination conditions in the country.
Describing PDP as compromised, Melaye accused that the party had effectively become an extension of the ruling APC. “PDP has been purchased by APC. Now it is parastatal, the APC department,” he said.
He also questioned the behavior of the Governor of PDP, showing that they no longer functioned as true opposition leaders. “Just look at the number of governors in PDP today. Do they act like the opposition governor? You know the role of the opposition, and you know how strong the Governor of Nigeria is,” he concluded.
