FG Argagns Five suspects of June 2022 Attack on Owo Catholic …

On Monday the Federal Government accused five men before a high Federal Court in Abuja for their alleged involvement in the attack of June 5, 2022 at the Catholic Church of San Francesco, Owo, in the state of wave.

The five people – Idris Abdulmalik Omeiza, at Qasim Idris, Jamiu Abdulmalik, Abdulhaleem Idris and Momoh Otuho Abubakar – face a trial for the attack that caused over 40 lives and left over 100 wounded people.

The five accused were accused of a charge of terrorism of nine counts, marked: FHC/Abj/Cr/301/2025 presented by the Department of State Services (DSS).

In the accusation, I am accused, among others, of being members of the Al Shabab terrorist group, with the cell in the state of Kogi.

It is also assumed that the accused have carried out the attack in support of their religious ideology.

Some counts in the accusation read:

● That you, Idris Abdulmalik Omeiza, Al Qasim Idris, Jamiu Abdulmalik, Abdulhaleem Idris and Momoh Otuho Abubakar Adults, Malas, With Others Still At Large, Sometime in 2021, Did Join and Became Members of Al Shabab Terrorist Group, with Cell in Kogi State and Thereby Committed an offence Contrary to and Punishable Under Section 25 (1) of the law on terrorism (prevention and prohibition), 2022.

● That you, Idris Abdulmalik Omeiza, at Qasim Idris, Jamiu Abdulmalik, Abdulhaleem Idris and Momoh Otuho Abubakar, adults, males, with others in general, on May 30, 2022; 37 June 2022 and 4 June 2022, at the Secondary School of the Government, Ogamirana, Adavi LGA, State of Kogi and behind the central mosque of Omialafa, Ose Lga, a wave state, respectively, participated and kept meetings, where you accepted and planned for a terrorist attack, which you brought 5 ™, 2022, to St. Francs Church, in June, in June. You accepted and planned by an attack on terrorism, which you brought on June 5, 2022, to St. Francs Church, Owdo, Owdo, in which you accepted a dedoring church, due to an ofdo, in Owdo, in which you accepted a Catholic state and you accepted an offage asked for church and offaged to be official. Contrary and punishable pursuant to section 12 (a) of terrorism (prevention and prohibition), 2022.

● that you, Idris Abdulmalik Omeiza, at Qasim Idris, Jamiu Abdulmalik, Abdulhaleem Idris and Momoh Otuho Abubakar, adults, males, with others in general, on 05/06/2022, at the Catholic Church of San Francesco, Owo, Ondo, with religious intention and with your religious weapons. Ak 47 rifles, attacked the worshipers, kept them hostage and in the process, caused serious physical damage to over 100 people, including Onileke Ayodele, John Blessing, Nelu Esther and Ogungbade Peter and therefore committed a contrary crime.

● That you, Idris Abdulmalik Omeiza, at the Qasim Idris, Jamiu Abdulmalik, Abdulhaleem Idris and Momoh Otuho Abubakar, adults, males, with the others in St. Attack, with the catchicians, with the tubes by St. Ostage, killed over 40 people and caused serious physical damage to over 100 people and therefore committed an end contrary to section 2 (1) (2) and (3) (V) and punishable pursuant to section 24 (1) and (2) of tppa, 2022.

● That you, Idris Abdulmalik Omeiza, at the Qasim Idris, Jamiu Abdulmalik, Abdulhaleem Idris and Momoh Otuho Abubakar, adults, males, with a detention still big, with the death in big (IEDS), which led to the death of over 40 people, including: Ajanaku John; Onuoha Deborah; Onileke Esther and John Bosade and therefore committed a contrary crime and punishable pursuant to section 42 (A) (II) of terrorism (prevention and prohibition) Act, 2022.

● that you, Idris Abdulmalik Omeiza, at Qasim Idris, Jamiu Abdulmalik, Abdulhaleem Idris and Momoh Otuho Abubakar, adults, males, with the touch of detonation still in large explosive devices (IED) which have caused serious physical damage to over 100 people, including: ONuchukwu Happiness, Ogungbade, Vivan and Nnakwe Paschaline Ugochinyerem and therefore committed a contrary crime and punishable pursuant to section 42 (a) (i) of terrorism (prevention and prohibition) act, 2022.

They declared themselves not guilty when the accusation was read by a court official.

Following the reason not guilty by the five accused, accusing the lawyer Calistus Eze, he urged the court to order to be postponed to custody of the DSS waiting for a trial.

The defense lawyer Abdullahi Muhammad, however, asked the court to order the DSS to grant the families of the defendants and their lawyers access to them.

Muhammad said that the accused was in custody since 2022 when they had been arrested and had not had access to family members and their lawyers.

Eze said that it was the standard practice that the family members and lawyers of prisoners should be granted access after a formal written request.

He observed that at this stage he had become inevitable that the defendants could access their lawyers to allow them to prepare their defense.

Judgment, judge Emeka Nwite ordered that the accused was postponed to the DSS custody.

The judge also ordered that the DSS grant the accused access to the members of their families and lawyers.

He then renounced until August 19 for the start of the trial.
