The National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, has accused the administration of the Tinubu Bola President of the political parties who intentionally frustrated where the former presidential candidate of the Labor Party, Peter Obi, showed interest.
Speaking on Wednesday during the interview at AIT Focus Nigeria, Tanko claimed there was an active strategy in the federal government to prevent Obi to secure the presidential ticket at each party before the 2027 election. He called the alleged effort as “Operation Do not allow Peter Obi to have a ticket.”
“This government is very good at creating problems in every political party that has emerged by the name Peter Obi,” said Tanko. “We have accused the government of having a third hand in every political party to cause chaos in the system. Wherever the name Peter Obi sounds a bell, that’s where they are interested in ensuring that he does not win.”
Apart from the alleged intervention, Tanko stated the belief that Obi would get a ticket, noted that the Democratic Party (PDP) of the People (PDP), the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and the Labor Party remained interested in deploying it.
“Our target is to keep our strategy close to our chest and release it at the right time,” he said. “The most popular presidential candidate in Nigeria today and for Nigerians around the world is Peter Obi, without doubt. We do not want to repeat the situation of MKO Abiola, where the most popular candidates are rejected by the President. This time, we have life, are popular, and many are asked to enjoy strong support from Nigerian youths.”
Tanko urged supporters to remain vigilant, emphasizing that ensuring Obi’s nomination was very important to maintain political momentum and prevent what he described as a setback for the Nigerian democratic process.
