The police arrested the Chairman of the Ogun PDP, Inec official because of the alleged vote purchase

The police operative in Ogun has arrested the chairman of the people’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Abayomi Tella, and two staff of the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) during the ongoing selection at the federal constituency of the state.

Police Commissioner, Lanre Ogunlowo, confirmed the news to journalists on Saturday at Abeokuta.

CP spoke to journalists after a video showing the arrest of the Chairperson of the PDP, Inec officials, and two others because of the alleged voting purchases appeared on social media.

He said the quinteen was arrested at Iperu Remo on Saturday with a large amount of money suspected of buying votes during the election.

Ogunlowo said: “We are investigating this problem. That’s how much I can say for now; you might call back that day for more information.”

Meanwhile, PDP has condemned the arrest of its chairman in a hotel and described it as intimidation and harassment allegedly supported by security institutions.

In a statement signed by his publicity secretary, Kayode Adebayo, the party stated that “In a very surprising step, the Chairperson of the PDP was arrested at his hotel in the early hours of the morning, in what seems to be an attempt that was taken into account to weaken the opponent”.

“The bright effort to suppress opposition and damage the will of the people Remo is a dangerous precedent.

“Your sagors, Remo North, and Ikenne know who they chose.

“PDP stands with the people of Remo and will not sit still, while their democratic rights are stepped on,” said the spokesman.
