FG set to host national political dialogue on health funding, universal health coverage
Abuja (basic reporter) The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Wellness (FMOHSW), is destined to convene a high -level national political dialogue under the theme: “Reinventing the future of health funding in Nigeria”. AND
The dialogue scheduled to hold on the 1st to 4th September 2025, will bring together high government officials, politicians, development partners, civil society, academy and private sector to deliberate on innovative and sustainable approaches to health funding that will guarantee fair access to quality health services for all Nigerians.
A declaration of the deputy director/leader, of information and public relations of the Ministry of Health and Social Wellness, Alaba Balogun, said that this platform is based on Nigeria’s leadership in Africa in making universal health coverage (UHC) advance.
We remind you that in February 2019, at the meeting of African leadership (Alm) during the 32nd ordinary assembly of heads of state and government of the African Union in Addis Ababa; Member States, including Nigeria, have committed to increase internal health funding.
The consequent declaration Alm has reaffirmed the continental commitment for stronger health systems, more resilient and self -sufficient.
Driving the above declaration, the honorable coordinated minister of health and social well -being, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, underlined that the next chapter of Nigeria on the health reform will be anchored to the current investments and the national strategic reforms.
He said: “At the center of our next transformation phase it is a simple but urgent mission: to save human lives, reduce physical and financial suffering and provide health for all Nigerians, without leaving anyone behind.
Through the National Health Settor Renewal Investment Initiative, the sector approach and our strategic plan; We are aligning the government, partners and resources behind a shared vision of equity, responsibility and sustainability. “
To this end, Dr. Kelechi Ohiri, general manager of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), highlighted Nhia’s commitment to reduce health insurance coverage and deepen financial protection.
Political dialogue, according to the DG NHIA, aims to: review the results from the financing of the state of health.
Build consent on politically feasible strategies supported nationally to expand and support internal health funding among others.
