Botswana declares emergency for public health while the clinics are exhausted …

The president of Botswana Duma Boko said on Monday an emergency for public health, stating that the national medical supply chain had failed, leaving hospitals and short medicine clinics and other vital actions.

Boko said that the military would supervise an emergency distribution disc and that the first trucks would leave the capital Gaborone and would go to remote areas by the evening.

The Ministry of Health of the Southern Africa country warned at the beginning of August which was running out of medicines and supplies due to non -specified financial challenges and postponed all non -urgent surgery.

“The medical supply chain managed by the central medical stores has failed,” Boko said in a television address. “This failure has led to a serious interruption of health supplies across the country.”

The Ministry of Finance had approved 250 million pula ($ 17.35 million) in emergency funding for supply, he added.

The Botswana budget has been tied this year due to a prolonged recession in the global diamond market – is the main world diamond manufacturer for value.

The administration of the President of the United States Donald Trump also cut the funding that supported the Botswana health sector.

A spokesman for the Botswana government did not immediately answer questions about the fact that this contributed to the crisis.

Boko declared on Monday the price at which the government procures medical supplies was inflated and that existing distribution systems were causing losses, waste and damage.

In his declaration of August 4, the Ministry of Health declared that he had to have 1 billion pula to private healthcare facilities and suppliers, who was aggravating his challenges.

The medicines for hypertension, cancer, diabetes, tuberculosis, eye conditions, asthma, sexual reproductive health and mental health conditions were going to end.

There have also been shortcomings of medications and sutures, he added. [Reuter]
