The threat of a close strike, because Asuu refused the FG loan proposal, called it a ‘Greek gift’

The University Academic Staff Union (ASUU) has rejected the Federal Government’s plan to provide loans for lecturers, describing the offer as a “Greek gift” that members do not want to be accepted.

“Loans must be guaranteed by our union. This is not necessary, the council that regulates each university can provide loans to our members based on our service conditions. If we are paid for live wages and if all our benefits are paid as expected, who wants to borrow money. Let them do what is needed and we are good,” he said.

Prof. The right argues that if the government fulfills its obligations to lecturers, there is no need for academic staff to seek financial assistance through loans.

The Akure Asuu zone on Monday revealed that they mobilized their members throughout the country for the national general meeting scheduled for Tuesday, August 26, 2025.
