Ronaldo Level Record World Cup Qualifiers with Goals against Hungary

Cristiano Ronaldo matched the World Cup qualifying goal scorer when Portugal was in Hungary in a dramatic 2026 qualification.

The 40-year-old player converted a penalty in the 58th minute in the Puskás arena, marking his 39th goal in the World Cup qualifiers.

The calculation placed it parallel to Carlos Ruiz from Guatemala and three in front of the old rival Lionel Messi.

The strike also expanded the extraordinary Ronaldo international record to 141 goals in 223 appearances, the highest by male soccer players for his country.

Barnabas Varga Hungary opened the score in the 21st minute, before Bernardo Silva equalized for Portugal 15 minutes later.

Varga attacked again at the end of the 84th minute, but João Cancelo sealed three points with a quick response at 86.

Ronaldo, who scored two goals in Portugal’s 5-0 win over Armenia on Saturday, helped his team gather maximum points from the opening match of their two Group F.

Hungary sat third with one point, parallel to the Republic of Ireland after their 2-1 defeat in Armenia.
