The Governor of the State of Ekiti, Biodun Oyebbanji, has warned the Regional Government Chair of the financial carelessness, warning that the misuse of new financial autonomy is given to the council can damage their goals.
Speaking on Monday at the inauguration of the project facilitated by the Chairperson of the ERO Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Felicia Ibiloye, Oyebbanji said the essence of financial independence was to enable the council to provide important projects that directly affected residents at the grassroots.
He stressed that the dream of the Mandiri Council could slip if the allocation was diverted or wasted to the frustration.
“The Supreme Court’s decision on July 11, 2024, gave financial autonomy to all 774 local councils, stated that the governor was not constitutional to withstand the allocation of the council. In our state today, the local government implemented projects that changed life in road infrastructure, health care, school renovations, market stalls, and commercial agriculture to increase food security,” said.
The governor, represented at the event by his deputy, Ny. Afuye Monisade, emphasizing that financial freedom is not a license for waste but an appeal for death and accountability.
He urged the council boss to “double their efforts, work hard, and repay government movements by prioritizing the sending of democratic dividends to the people.”
The projects that were inaugurated at Ero LCDA were included in the new council secretariat complex, the launch of the Fabric Ekiti Adire initiative, and the Bao Aged Foundation program, which provided clothing and food support for poor elderly residents.
Oyewbanji also appealed to residents to support the second term offer to consolidate the ongoing program and encourage residents over 18 years to take part in the Sustainable Voter Registration Training ahead of the Governor Election June 20, 2026.
Praising Ibiloye’s leadership, the governor praised his efforts in maintaining peace along the eciti-kwara border through the collaboration of stakeholders to curb cross-border crime.
In his remarks, Ibiloye linked his achievements with the financial independence given under the Oyebbanji government, describing rural development as important for national growth.
He registered a channel project to control erosion, installation of 800kva/800W solar system, culvert construction, okada park formation, and other initiatives as part of his government efforts to open up economic opportunities.
Ibiloye assured residents that all ongoing projects will be completed before the end of his term of office, noting that the new council secretariat will provide a conducive work environment for staff.
