Armed Man Killed Catholic Priests in Enugu

Armed people on Friday killed a Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Mathew Eya, in the state of Enugu.

Until his death, Eya was a Parish Priest of the Catholic Church of St. Charles, Eha-ndiagu, in the NSUKKA Regional Government in the state.

Chancellor of Nsukka Catholic Diocese, Fr. Iyidobi’s firing, confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday.

Iyidobi said the scholar returned to his parish when he was attacked by armed people on a motorcycle along the Eha-Ndiagu road.

The statement reads: “Surprised by the marrow, it is by destroying pain and sadness, but the total submission to the will of God Almighty and strong hope in the resurrection of the dead, that I tell you about the tragic death of our other brothers, Rev. Fr. Matthew Eya.

“He was shot dead yesterday, September 19, 2025, throughout Eha-Alumona-EH-NIAUGI Road.

“Let us remain enthusiastic in prayer so that God sees us through this devastating period of sadness. May his soul rest peacefully. Amen.”
