The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria [PENGASSAN] He commissioned his members nationally to withdraw their services following the alleged mass dismissal of over 800 Nigerian workers by the dance refinery.

In a circular issued after a meeting of the National Emergency Executive Council of Saturday 27 September 2025 and signed by the Secretary General Lumumba Okugbawa, the union accused the refinery of violation of the laws at the work of Nigeria, the Constitution and conventions of the organization of international work by rejecting the workers for adherence to the association.

The NEC said that the refinery had replaced the personnel fired with “over 2,000 Indians”, defining the action “an affront to all workers in Nigeria”.

To press his requests, Pengassan directed the members in the field offices to break down on Sunday’s tools and ordered a total arrest nationally between offices, companies, institutions and agencies on Monday.

The letter states in part: “All the members of Pengassan who work through the field offices must take services in force from 06: 00 hours of Sunday 28 September 2025 and start 24 -hour prayers. This includes all the operations of the control room, panel operations and external staff.

“All members of Pengassan in all offices, companies, institutions and agencies should withdraw all services starting from 00:01 on Monday 29 September 2025.

“No intervention will be entertained in all offices on the field, except in which the safety of staff and activities is at risk; this authorization must be obtained by the national secretariat.

“All the processes involving the gas and raw supply to the dance refinery should actually be left immediately,

“All the branches of the IOC must increase the production of gas and provide to the refinery of damage and the petrochemicals.”

Management said that the company was conducting an internal reorganization to improve efficiency and insisted that most of its workforce remained Nigerian.

The action of Pengassan, if completely observed, risks interrupting the supplies to the refinery and could have wider implications for the valley operations related to the system. [The Punch]
