Nigeria has re -elected to the ICAO Council

Nigeria was re -elected in part 2 of the Council of the Organization for International Civil Aviation (ICAO), a specialized global agency accused of safe, safe and sustainable air travel.

Ben Tukur was re -elected to the Council of Montreal, Canada, at the 42nd assembly in the course of the ICAO.

A statement on the re -election of Tukur was made available to journalists on Saturday in Abuja by Mr. Tunde Moshood.

Moshood is the special consultant (SA) for the media and communications to the Airospace Minister of Aviation and Development, Festus Keyano.

According to the declaration, Tukur emerged victorious after a deeply contested election involving 11 other African nations.

“Tukur, who has been the representative of Nigeria with ICAO, will continue to occupy the Nigeria seat in the Council.

*This will further strengthen the role of the nation in the governance of global aviation.

“He was re -elected with an impressive 163 votes out of 185 eligible Member States, demonstrating strong international trust in the leadership and contributions of Nigeria at the septum of aviation, Mosood said

The SA said that Nigeria will join 11 other countries re -elected in part 2 of the ICAO Council, including Egypt and South Africa from the African block, “

He stressed that the result of the elections reflected the resilience of Nigeria’s aviation diplomacy and the strength of his global alliances within the ICAO family.

Speaking after the results were announced, the Mine of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo described the victory as a “moment proud for Nigeria and Africa”.

He said that the re -election reiterated the country’s commitment for the growth of international civil aviation and the promotion of safety, safety and sustainability in the sector.

“The continuous presence of Nigeria on the Council ICAO guarantees that the nation will remain actively involved in the formation of policies and standard that guide the global aviation.

“The continuous presence of Nigeria on the ICAO Council will also promote the interests of Africa within the international aeronautical community,” he added.

The ICAO Council is the government body of the global organization, made up of 36 Member States elected by the ICAO assembly for a three -year mandate.

The advice is divided into three parts for the purposes of the elections, not in operational functions. These parts reflect different categories of states to guarantee a geographical and functional representation.

Part 1 of the election categories of the ICAO Council: composing countries that are the main actors of global civil aviation, including the United States, China, France, Germany.

The category Part 2, in which Nigeria was re -elected, included countries that give the greater contribution to the supply of structures for international civil navigation.

The category Part 3 is for geographical representation to ensure that all regions of the world are represented fairly.
