Asuu Imbrant 14 days ultimatum-thage

By Victor Osula, Abuja

The union of the universities of academic staff (Asuu) has threatened to close public universities if the federal government cannot meet its requests within the next 14 days.

The warning followed the meeting of the National Executive Council of the Union (NEC) held on Sunday, at the University of Abuja.

In a Monday declaration, the President of the Asuu, prof. Chris Piwuna, said that teachers could no longer tolerate the negligence of the government of the university system and the inability to honor existing agreements.

He explained that if the ultimatum expired without progress, the union would have undertaken a two -week warning strike, to be followed by a total and indefinite industrial action.

“At the meeting of the National Executive Council held at the University of Abuja on September 28, 2025, the union denounced the negligence of the university system and the coherent refusal of the government to listen to his requests. As a result, Asuu gave the federal government of Nigeria an ultimatum of Quadratum (14) days in which they face these problems. If at the end of the four days, the federal government, the federal government, the federal government, Federal, things by the four days, the federal government, the federal government, the things by the four days, the federal government, the federal government, the people who have had a context, the people who have had a context, the people who have fueled.

Among the requests of Asuu there are the renegotiation of the 2009 agreement with the federal government, adequate revitalization funds for universities, the resolution of the backbag backgrounds and the creation of sustainable financing mechanisms.

Previously, the Federal Government had established a committee led by the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Education, Abel Enitan, to review the proposals of Asuu, but no results have been made public.

The interested parties fear that another strike can throw students and parents in a new uncertainty, just a year after universities have recovered from prolonged interruptions.
