Adeleke: No agreement to share legislative and council seats with APC; our agreement only with Tinubu

Governor Ademola Adeleke has denied rumors and insinuations on the details of his relationship with the presidency, clarifying that he has no agreement to share legislative or local government seats with Osun APC.

The governor clarified amidst social media reports that the agreement between the governor and the presidency involves sharing of local government positions as well as those of the state Senate, House of Representatives and Assembly between the Osun Accord and the state APC in the upcoming elections.

The governor, who reaffirmed his commitment to the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, said negotiations to resolve the local government crisis are aimed at protecting the interests of both APC chairmen and elected PDP chairmen and councilors, saying reports of office-sharing are “mere fabrication and fake news”.

“As the governor of all indigenous people and residents of Osun, we are working to resolve the issue of local governance by ensuring that all interests are protected and taken care of. For now, all stakeholders have agreed that restoration of grassroots governance is a condition for the success of our campaign ahead of the 2027 elections,” the governor said.

While assuring that the local government crisis would be resolved by the end of the year, the governor said he had not entered into any agreement to share legislative seats with the Osun APC as rumoured, declaring that “what unites the coalition partners is only the presidential election.

“As I said when inaugurating the Presidential Campaign Council, the coalition has as its goal the presidential elections. The partners have agreed to join forces to ensure that our dear president is re-elected. All other legislative positions are open to competition. I will work and campaign for Accord candidates in the Senate, the House of Representatives and the House of Assembly.

“I urge all political parties to campaign for their candidates as I will do for the Accord candidates. We have no agreement on the National Assembly and State Assembly elections. All our candidates will face the electorate who will have the final say.”
