47 countries express interest in the hosting of the regional presence of GCF

The request for proposals to host a regional presence of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) has closed with 47 countries confirming their interest.

The significant response validates the vision of the fund to be closer to the countries that serves and provides greater financial support on a large scale, strengthens national institutions and builds more partnerships for the impact.

The GCF secretariat will now examine all the proposals with respect to the terms of the reference criteria approved by the Council of the Fund.

The executive director of the GCF, Mafalda Duarte, said: “If the climatic action is a local action, which is, then GCF must also be local to ensure maximum impact. GCF must be only a source of finance, but as a partner who works on the ground. Establishing a regional presence is a historical step for the fund, which will bring our world specialists to those who serve.

The secretariat will briefly update the Board of Directors on the regional presence in its forty -three meeting, scheduled from 27 to 30 October 2025. The detailed analysis of the proposals for the host countries, together with the implementation plan, will be considered by the Board of Directors in the following meeting.

Since 2013, the GCF is based exclusively in Songdo, in the Republic of Korea.
