Okpebholo condemned Obaseki’s commissioning of unfinished projects in Edo

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, on Tuesday, expressed displeasure over the commissioning of incomplete projects by the Godwin Obaseki administration.

Okpebholo, who inspected the Stella Obasanjo Hospital and Educational Center Complex in Benin City, expressed shock at the level of incomplete work at the facility which was publicly declared “commissioned” by the last government in the state.

The hospital and education center were commissioned by Obaseki in October 2024, weeks before he handed over power to Okpebholo on November 12, 2024.

The governor described the move as detrimental to the people of Edo State and a clear attempt to cover up inefficiencies.

He promised to complete the projects and ensure they serve their intended purpose before the end of the year.

Okpebholo reiterated his administration’s commitment to integrity in governance by completing all abandoned or half-baked projects for the benefit of the population.

According to him, the Stella Obasanjo Hospital is nearly 60 percent complete, and many of the hospital beds were recycled from previous structures.

Okpebholo directed that all necessary works be expedited to complete the hospital as quickly as possible.

He also expressed disappointment at the Iyaro education centre, saying the last administration’s decision to commission the complex was premature and misleading.

He assured that his government would mobilize contractors to start work on the project and make it fully functional.

Okpebholo stressed his administration’s focus on accountability, transparency and real results and vowed that the era of “cosmetic governance” and “deceptive commissioning” was over in the state.

“We are not here to play politics with the lives of the Edo people.

“Our mission is to rebuild, restore and ensure every project serves people.

“The people of Edo deserve honesty and visible progress, and that is what this administration will deliver,” the governor said.
