PDP candidate in Zamfara by-election joins APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the August 12 by-election in Kaura Namoda South Constituency in Zamfara State, Muhammad-Lawal Kurya, has joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He announced his defection at a stakeholder consultation meeting for Zamfara Central organized by the popular APC group, “Yazeed Project,” on Saturday in Gusau.

Kurya was defeated in the State Council by-election by APC candidate, Kamilu Sa’idu.

The politician said he dumped the PDP for the APC because of the negligence of the party leadership in the state.

He said: “I had many personal and political reasons that required me to defect from the PDP to the APC, among them negligence.

“Since when did I lose the by-election, the party leadership, and top Zamfara government officials ignored me. In fact, most of them blocked my access to them.

“I think as a politician with a large number of followers, I have to change my political movement to a party that is ready to support me.

“I have worked for the party since the 2023 election, but there is no reward.

“Today, I decided to join the APC, considering the popularity of the party in the by-election I recently contested under the PDP.

“The APC has huge supporters in my constituency. All the records and results of the APC during the by-election are correct.

“Our elections were free and fair, honestly I was defeated by the APC candidate, Kamilu Sa’idu.

“Therefore, I decided to join APC considering its popularity, good leadership and is a party with a grassroots structure across the state.”
