ABS Ilorin FC interim head coach Ogundeji Joel has praised the fighting spirit and determination of his players despite their 2-0 loss to Lobi Stars in the Nigerian National League (NNL) matchday 11 clash in Makurdi.
Lobi Stars opened the scoring early in the match when Onah Peter rose highest to head home after Suur Kumaga was fouled in the visiting half, giving the hosts an early lead in the opening minutes of the match.
ABS Ilorin FC fought hard to get back into the match and showed resilience throughout the match, creating some promising moments while trying to break down the Lobi Stars defence.
However, the hosts sealed the victory in added time. In the 90+1 minute, Barnabas Imenger Jr. capitalized after Aremu Taofeek lost possession in midfield. Seeing ABS goalkeeper Sulieman Issah off his line, Imenger Jr. unleashed a long-range shot into the net to double Lobi Stars’ lead and secure all three points.
Despite the defeat, coach Ogundeji Joel said he was proud of the effort and determination shown by his players during the match.
“I am satisfied with the performance of my players. They showed great determination, discipline and team spirit throughout the match,” Ogundeji said.
“The result doesn’t really reflect our effort on the field. We were a bit unlucky, but I’m proud of the mentality the players showed.”
ABS Ilorin FC will now turn their attention to the Nigerian National League matchday 12 match against Doma United in Ilorin where they hope to bounce back and get back to winning ways.
