A number of passengers were injured on Monday morning when a train operating on the Abuja–Kaduna railway line was involved in an incident that forced the journey to come to an abrupt halt before reaching its destination.
The train, which departed from Kaduna State en route to Abuja in the Federal Capital Territory, was unable to complete the journey as scheduled following disruptions along the busy rail corridor connecting the two cities.
A source at the Nigerian Railways confirmed that the incident occurred but declined to provide details, explaining that he was not authorized to comment on the matter officially.
Passengers on the train said the situation occurred suddenly, triggering panic in the carriage when the train stopped unexpectedly.
Some passengers said they heard a loud bang moments before the train jolted violently, throwing some passengers from their seats and causing confusion in the compartment.
Eyewitness reports indicate that the Abuja-bound train may have collided with another train along the corridor, leading to a temporary suspension of operations on the route while the situation is assessed.
Reports indicate that a number of passengers suffered injuries, including cuts and bruises, after being thrown onto seats and metal fittings in the carriage.

One of the passengers, Sada Malumfashi, described the frightening experience in a social media post shortly after getting off the train, and said that the sudden shaking caught many passengers off guard.
A passenger who described his experience on his X account said the train remained silent for about 30 minutes before continuing its slow journey towards Kubwa on the outskirts of Abuja.
He said, “Just got off the Kaduna-Abuja train. We heard a loud bang, and the train jolted to a stop, throwing people across. Passengers were hit, and most were bleeding and badly injured. The train was delayed for about 30 minutes and continued on to Kubwa. No communication from @info_NRC about anything.”
When contacted, Nigerian Railway Corporation spokesperson, Callistus Unyimadu confirmed the incident and said an official statement would be issued to provide further details.
