Plateau imposes dusk-to-dawn curfew on three LGAs and bans motorcycles

The Plateau State Government has imposed an immediate dusk to dawn curfew on three local government areas following emerging security concerns in some parts of the state.

The affected local government areas are Barkin Ladi, Bokkos and Mangu, where residents have been ordered to restrict their movements between 6pm and 6am until further notice.

The directive, which came into effect on Monday, September 21, 2026, was announced by the state Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Lohya Ramnap, in a statement released on Monday.

The government said the measure aims to give security agencies space to stabilize affected areas, protect lives and prevent a further breakdown of law and order.

As a further restriction, the government has also banned the use of motorcycles in the three LGAs with immediate effect.

Residents were asked to comply with the restrictions and rearrange their commercial, agricultural and other activities around the curfew hours.

The government also ordered security officers to enforce a curfew and ban on the use of motorcycles in the affected communities.

According to the statement, the personnel employed for the monitoring exercise were instructed to operate in a professional manner while carrying out their duties.

The government did not provide details of the specific incidents that led to the latest restrictions, but said the directive followed security incidents reported in parts of Plateau state, particularly in Barkin Ladi, Bokkos and Mangu.

The three LGAs have already played a prominent role in security issues in Plateau State, with attacks and communal tensions periodically affecting communities in the areas.

The government urged residents to cooperate with security agencies and abide by restrictions as efforts to restore stability continue.
