A member of the Ekiti State House of Assembly representing Irepodun-Ifelodun Constituency II, Rt Hon Hakeem Jamiu PhD, has dismissed claims that he endorsed Boluwatife Fayose as the consensus candidate for the House of Assembly seat in the constituency.
Jamiu clarified following reports circulating online that he was among stakeholders who supported Fayose during an election meeting held in Iworoko on Saturday, March 14, 2026.
In a statement released on Monday, the MP said that although he was present at the meeting, he did not make any endorsements and clearly expressed his opposition to the alleged consent agreement.
According to him, the All Progressives Congress (APC) had not approved a consensus process for the selection of candidates for primaries of state and national assemblies.
He explained that at the last stakeholders’ meeting held at Jibowu Hall, Government House, the party only approved consensus agreements for the positions of chairman and councilor, adding that no further meeting was held to extend the agreement to legislative seats.
“It is embarrassing for me, as a sitting member of the House of Assembly, to be invited to a campaign meeting in my constituency only to be drafted via ambush into a pre-arranged consensus,” Jamiu said.
The lawmaker described the alleged approval as “premature and absurd,” noting that the party has yet to release official guidelines for the primaries that would determine candidates for the state and national assemblies.
He expressed confidence that the national leadership of the APC will ensure internal democracy and provide a level playing field for all aspirants seeking to join the party.
Jamiu also claimed the meeting turned violent, claiming he was assaulted by a ward councilor who pushed and abused him while allegedly threatening his life.
Reaffirming his position, the MP urged his supporters and associates to ignore reports suggesting he was part of the approval, insisting that consent requires the agreement of all stakeholders, which he said is not the case.
He said he remains committed to due process and internal democracy in the party ahead of the upcoming primaries.
