The committee, consisting of state chairmen-elect and others, also asked Abure to issue relevant notifications to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the holding of primaries in the 2027 general elections in accordance with the commission’s schedule.

“The following resolution has been adopted. Based on the Tribune’s March 6, 2026 publication calling for virtual and physical meetings of the NEC, this virtual meeting is important.

“The meeting was attended by the Chairmen and State Secretaries who were legally elected on December 6 2025, including other Party figures.

“The NEC in its session reviewed the activities of the Caretaker Committee and concluded that they had done incalculable harm to the Party since its illegal founding.

“The NEC consequently disbanded the Esther Nenadi Usman Caretaker Committee. The NEC at the hearing reiterated its confidence in the National Working Committee led by Lawyer Julius Abure.

“Elected at the National Convention held on March 27, 2024 and reaffirmed through the NEC Party meeting held on November 28, 2025, monitored by INEC,” the statement read.
