Ondo North voters choose Adeyanju in 90% of polls

As political activities begin to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, a new public opinion poll has positioned Engineer Michael Abayomi Adeyanju (popularly known as Imole) as the overwhelming favorite for the Ondo North senatorial seat, with 90% of respondents expressing preference for his candidacy..

The poll, conducted by PenPlus Stat Index (the research and public opinion unit of publishers PenPlus Online Media), also revealed deep dissatisfaction with the current senator representing the district, with 85% of respondents rating his performance as “very poor.”

According to the February 19, 2026 report, the investigation covered all six local government areas of Ondo North – Akoko North East, Akoko North West, Akoko South East, Akoko South West, Ose and Owo – as well as 72 political constituencies across the district.

A total of 12,024 respondents participated, drawn from farmers, traders, civil servants, artisans, youth and community stakeholders.

The findings indicate that while political awareness remains high – with all respondents confirming knowledge of elected federal legislators, public perceptions of performance vary greatly.

In contrast to the senator’s rating, 45% of respondents described the performance of members of the House of Representatives as “average,” with many attributing their rating to campaign projects, accessibility and grassroots engagement.

However, the report finds that dissatisfaction with senatorial representation is widespread across the district, with 85% of respondents expressing a need for a change in Senate leadership in 2027.

“Limited visibility and insufficient interventions at the electoral level” were repeatedly cited as the main reasons behind the negative perception of the incumbent senator.

The survey also highlighted that voters in Ondo North place a strong emphasis on tangible development, accessibility of elected officials and sustained grassroots commitment as key determinants of electoral support.

In the emerging political outlook, Adeyanju appears to have gained considerable early momentum, with 90% of respondents identifying him as the preferred candidate among potential senatorial race aspirants.

The report, however, cautions that the results reflect public sentiment at the time of the poll and should not be interpreted as a prediction of the 2027 election outcome, stressing that political dynamics could still evolve significantly ahead of the polls.

He added that the survey offers insight into voter expectations in the district, noting that candidates who demonstrate a strong grassroots presence and deliver visible plans for the constituency are more likely to gain voters’ trust.
