Kwara United stumble in Ikenne as Remo Stars claim 3-1 victory

Kwara United suffered a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Remo Stars in the matchday 31 fixture of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne.

The Harmony Boys got off to a good start and took the lead in the 34th minute thanks to Ibrahim Yahaya, who finished off a swift counterattack after receiving a timely pass from Junior Aimufua.

However, the lead lasted only four minutes when Ahmed Akinyele restored parity for the hosts in the 38th minute, ensuring that both teams went into the break level.

Kwara United had a golden opportunity to regain the lead when Junior Aimufua was brought down in the penalty area, earning the visitors a penalty. Unfortunately, Ini Emmanuel failed to convert the penalty, leaving the score at 1-1.

Remo Stars returned in the second half with renewed intensity, dominating the game and dictating the pace of the game. Their persistence paid off with two quick goals: Haruna Hadi scored in the 70th minute before Victor Nboama doubled the lead just three minutes later to seal the victory.

Speaking after the match, coach Ashifat Suleiman expressed his disappointment at the result and highlighted the missed penalty as a key turning point.

“We were punished for not scoring the penalty, which could have been a turning point for us. It’s disappointing,” he said.

Kwara United will now shift their attention to their upcoming matches where they are scheduled to play back-to-back home games as they look to bounce back from the defeat.
