Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has approved a monthly transportation support allowance of N10,000 for civil servants in the State.
Makinde announced this on Monday while overseeing the YEAP-SAFER Stakeholder Support and Engagement Disbursement Program at the Fashola Agribusiness Hub in Oyo City.
He said the initiative will be implemented for an initial period of three months.
According to him, the payment of N10,000 transportation allowance will take effect from March.
The governor said details of the disbursement guidelines will be communicated in due course through appropriate government channels.
Makinde said the initiative is part of the state government’s strategic response to the prevailing economic challenges, particularly rising transport costs brought about by the ongoing energy crisis.
According to him, the challenge has had a significant impact on workers’ well-being and productivity.
He said the support program aims to relieve financial pressure on civil servants, while supporting efficient service delivery across ministries, departments and agencies.
On February 28, hostilities broke out between Israel and the USA against Iran and this led to an increase in the prices of petroleum products on the international market.
In Nigeria, the pump price of petrol has jumped sharply from N860 per liter to between N1,320 and N1500 at petrol stations.
The situation subsequently led to an increase in transport and food tariffs.
