2027: We are yet to choose the candidate for the Oyo governorship contest – APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State on Thursday said the party is yet to choose its governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections.

The Oyo APC, in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Comrade Olawale Sadare, described reports in some media that the party had chosen its governorship candidate for next year’s general elections as speculative, false and unnecessary.

The party in the statement appealed for calm among its members and supporters promising that “constitutional and democratic procedures will be strictly followed when the time is appropriate to bring out all its candidates in the 2027 elections.

“For the avoidance of doubt, we are not aware of any individual’s ambitions regarding the 2027 elections. Our party has not started receiving letters of intent from willing contestants because it is not yet time,” he said.

“We are a party that conducts its activities in strict compliance with the rule of law as specified by the National Constitution, the electoral law and the constitution of our great party.

“We are not putting the cart before the horse because we understand the terrain and will not do anything that will undermine democracy in the country.

“We, therefore, urge members of our great party and the general public to ignore the publication in its entirety. The story was crafted by its authors as it did not emanate from us. INEC has released its guidelines for the 2027 polls and we are guided by them.

“The task before us at the moment is the successful completion of the party congresses ahead of the National Convention to be held this weekend in Abuja,” the statement added.
