Wike says: PDP convention will be held as scheduled

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike says the National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will be held as scheduled on March 29 and 30, 2026.

Wike stated this while interacting with journalists after inspecting some ongoing projects in the FCT on Friday, March 27, 2026.

The minister’s response followed calls from some stakeholders to postpone the convention to give time for reconciliation of the faction led by Tanimu Turaki with that of Abdulrahman Mohammed, supported by Wike.

He said discussions on reconciliation could continue after the convention, adding that holding the convention does not necessarily preclude reconciliation.

“The PDP national convention will go ahead as scheduled. No one will stop us,” he said, insisting that there is no faction in the PDP but only aggrieved members.

Wike said he met Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, during the scheduled convention and told him that the convention must go ahead.

“People are angry, yes. When a child is angry, well, you’ll try to see how you can calm them down, but that doesn’t mean you’re going to allow the child to destroy the house you built,” he said.
