UNILAG promotes Tayo Popoola to the rank of full professor

The University of Lagos Governing Council (UNILAG) has promoted a veteran journalist and former editor of several Nigerian newspapers and magazines, Dr. Tayo Popoola, to the rank of Full Professor in the Department of Mass Communication, University of Lagos.

According to the official University newsletter, Campus News, vol. 019, issued on Friday, Popoola was promoted from the rank of Associate Professor to Full Professor.

It may be recalled that Popoola in his heydays in journalism was at different times a writer, political correspondent, political editor, assistant news editor, news editor, deputy editor and publisher.

He left the defunct weekend newspaper Diet as editor in 2001 and joined Unilag’s services in 2002 as a teaching assistant. He has worked his way up to Grade 2 Lecturer, Grade 1 Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor and now Professor.

He has published widely in local and foreign journals, including numerous contributions to local and foreign textbook chapters around the world. He is the author of the following authoritative textbooks: Introduction to Government (2001), GSM as a tool for news reporting in Nigeria (2003), Public Relations, Advertising and Promotions (2005), A model work for Christ (2007), Youth Ministry and Family Lifestyle (2008), The Man Tony Adefuye (A biography 2008), Specialized Reporting: A Global Trend in media training vol 1&2 (2012 & 2013), Law on mass media in Nigeria, A Professional Perspective (2016), Introduction to Mass Communication (2017), Parrot Journalism: A Guide to Investigative Journalism (2019), Introduction to Political Communication in Nigeria (2026) and many more.

Popoola, an expert in the field of political communication, is currently the Ag HOD of the Department of Mass Communication, University of Lagos.
