Cult rivalry: Tension over Agali killing in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has begun investigations into the fatal shooting of a man popularly known as “Agali” in Surulere area of ​​the state.

The command revealed this in a post shared on Sunday on its official X handle, @LagosPoliceNG.

It should be noted that the command was aware of the shooting which occurred on Saturday around 11.30pm, at the National Stadium Bridge, Surulere.

The command was reacting to a video from the scene posted by @naijaConfra, an X handle known for sharing content about cult-related activities, which showed a damaged white vehicle at the scene with a crowd of people gathered around it.

@naijaConfra also spread claims about the incident, claiming that the deceased was associated with a cult group and was a prominent figure in the area.

The post also made unverified claims linking the incident to cult rivalry and local political affiliations.

He also suggested possible tensions between rival groups and mentioned concerns about potential retaliation.

Meanwhile, the command says the victim who was shot was rushed to the Mainland General Hospital, Yaba, where he was confirmed dead.

According to the police, investigations are underway to ascertain the circumstances of the incident.
Meanwhile, detectives and police officers have been strategically deployed in Surulere area of ​​Lagos to prevent a breakdown of law and order.
