ADC crisis: South West youth mobilize for 7-day ‘Occupy INEC’ protest against cancellation of party leaders

A new political tension is brewing within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as youth groups and aspirants from the South West have announced a seven-day protest dubbed “Occupy INEC South-West Protest” over the alleged deletion of the party’s national leadership from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal..

The mobilization comes at a time when concerns are growing within the party that its leadership crisis could undermine the national convention scheduled for Tuesday, April 14 in Abuja, the same day a court is expected to pass judgment on the controversy surrounding the party’s national president and national secretary.

Organizers of the planned rally have warned that the convention risks being rendered ineffective if the electoral commission fails to restore full recognition of the party before the legal decision.

In a mobilization notice distributed to aspirants and youth coordinators in Lagos and Ogun states, the group called for full participation in what it described as a “peaceful democratic protest” starting at 9am tomorrow and expected to last seven days.

According to the directive, every aspirant in Lagos and Ogun local government areas should mobilize at least 200 youths to designated protest sites, while also submitting details of coordinators for verification and logistics management.

Participants were also urged to involve security agencies to ensure order during the protest, as well as provide financial support to support the mobilization effort.

The notice emphasized the aspirants’ physical participation, insisting that they must personally join the protest, described as crucial to defending the party’s political future and the aspirations of its supporters.

“We are at a critical turning point in the history of our party,” the statement read, adding that the protest aims to defend “democratic rights” and ensure that members’ voices are not silenced.

Young people across the South West were further encouraged to participate en masse, with a strong warning that the protest must remain peaceful and disciplined to avoid compromising its objectives.

“Let’s be clear: this is a peaceful protest. Any form of violence will undermine our cause and weaken our position,” organizers warned.
The agitation is being coordinated by the South West party’s youth leadership office.

The mobilization message was signed by Olusi Adeola, National Youth Assistant of the South West, who called for unity and strict compliance with the instructions throughout the planned demonstration.

At the heart of the dispute is the alleged deletion of the party’s national president and national secretary from INEC’s official portal, a development which organizers say has left the ADC in a state of uncertainty and threatened its operational legitimacy ahead of critical national commitments.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has not officially responded to the latest mobilization at the time of writing.

The African Democratic Congress is currently facing internal legal and administrative tensions that stakeholders fear could intensify if unresolved before the next court ruling and national convention.
