Britain rules out role in Hormuz blockade amid rising tensions

Britain has ruled out participation in any blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

This clarification came after the President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced that Washington would begin a naval operation to block ships entering or leaving the strategic waterway.

A British government spokesperson, in a chat with Sky News, reaffirmed his country’s commitment to maintaining open shipping lanes, stressing the importance of freedom of navigation for global trade and domestic economic stability.

While ruling out participation in the blockade, Britain said it was working with its allies, including France, to form a coalition aimed at guarding maritime routes.

Trump, speaking to Fox News, stated that many countries could help the US efforts, including by deploying minesweepers.

Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said have urged Washington and Tehran to reduce tensions and resume dialogue.
