Tinubu reaffirms commitment to transparent tax system at launch of NRS

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s determination to build a transparent, efficient and technology-driven tax system aimed at boosting Nigeria’s economic growth.

The President made this known during the inauguration of the new headquarters of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) in Abuja, describing the project as a milestone in the ongoing economic reforms.

The newly opened facility, a modern complex of three 16-story towers, is designed to house approximately 3,000 employees and serves as a central hub for the nation’s tax operations.

Tinubu said this development reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening public institutions and improving confidence in the country’s tax administration.

“Our goal is to create a revenue system that promotes enterprise, supports economic expansion and ensures that citizens see value for their contributions,” he said.

He recalled his inauguration promise to reposition the economy through structural reforms and fiscal discipline.

According to the president, current policies are anchored on transparency, fairness and creating a more attractive environment for investors.

Tinubu stressed that sustainable economic progress cannot be achieved with a weak or inefficient tax system, stressing the need to streamline processes and eliminate inefficiencies.

He said the first results of the reforms are already visible, citing improvements in fiscal stability and increased investor confidence.

The President commended the leadership of the Revenue Service, led by Zacch Adedeji, for carrying out reforms and improving institutional efficiency.

He added that the new headquarters symbolizes the administration’s professionalism and determination to modernize revenue collection systems.

Tinubu urged service officials to prioritize fairness, accountability and public trust in their operations.

“We must go beyond revenue collection and focus on building trust through transparency and fairness,” he said.

He emphasized that achieving national progress requires sustained effort, strong leadership and collaboration among stakeholders.

Tinubu assured Nigerians that the ongoing reforms will lead to inclusive growth, sustainable development and long-term prosperity.

The event was attended by senior government officials, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House Tajudeen Abbas, Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele, as well as state governors and other dignitaries.
