Police deployed rapid response teams to secure JAMB centers nationwide

The Nigerian Police have intensified security measures across the country ahead of the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations administered by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), deploying rapid response units to examination centers across the country.

Authorities also dismissed widespread rumors that there was a threat to the candidate’s safety, describing the claims as baseless.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Placid, said police were aware of “recent unfounded rumours” regarding the security of several centers in North Central state, but stressed there was no cause for concern.

“The Nigerian Police categorically states that these claims are baseless.

“While the NPF does not act on rumours, the concerns raised by members of the public have been noted as they concern the safety, education and future of our children and environment,” the statement said.

He said proactive steps have been taken to ensure a safe environment for candidates when the exams begin on Thursday.

“For this purpose, extra security has been deployed at the national examination centers, both overtly and covertly, to prevent any untoward incidents from occurring.

“This includes routine patrols, perimeter checks, and rapid response teams deployed at strategic locations,” the statement added.

Placid further revealed that the police are working in coordination with other security agencies to strengthen surveillance and response efforts.

“The Nigerian Police is working closely with similar security agencies to effectively monitor and address potential threats.

“Any individuals or groups who attempt to disrupt the inspection process will be immediately identified and prosecuted,” Placid said.

He assured candidates, parents and the general public of adequate protection during the exam period, while urging strict adherence to exam guidelines.

“Candidates are urged to arrive early at their exam centers, comply with exam regulations, and report any suspicious activity or persons to on-site security officers,” it said.

The police spokesperson also warned against the spread of unverified information, and appealed to the public to rely only on official updates from the police and JAMB.

“The troops remain committed to maintaining peace, security and public trust in all national activities, including the JAMB examinations,” he said.

The 2026 UTME is scheduled to take place from Thursday, 16 April to Saturday, 25 April 2026.
