Kosofe and Mushin shine in the SAMDA Nigeria U13 tournament

Kosofe and Mushin local governments put up a sublime display in the first two football matches of the SAMDA Nigeria U13 tournament at Opebi Primary School, Ikeja, Lagos, on Monday.

Lagos State School Sports Chairman, Bisi Joseph, kicked off as Mushin took on the Kosofe girls in the opening match. The latter displayed beguiling skill from start to finish, crushing the former 3-0.

Ashade Anuoluwapo opened the scoring in the first ten minutes, while the enterprising and prodigiously talented Aliyu Rofiat chipped in with a second-half brace as Ajose Idris’ side sealed a comfortable victory on the first day of the tournament.

The same thing happened in the men’s category, as Kosofe took the young Badagry to the cleanliness, winning 3-1. The spectacular Waris Olarinde scored twice, putting his team 2-0 up after Aminu Yusuf broke the deadlock in the first twelve minutes and completed his brace in the second half, a rising shot that left the goalkeeper stunned.

Badagry showed that they were not in the game to be beaten by reducing the score late in the final minutes of the match, with Abayomi Segun clinically converting from the spot after a Kosofe defender had handled the ball inside the area.

The matches were followed by a large crowd, which included several dignitaries and former Nigerian internationals, including retired midfielder Waidi Akanni, who opened the second with words of encouragement for the players.

Currently, SAMDA operates in 26 countries in Africa and the Bahamas, namely Angola, Barbados, Botswana, Cameroon, Congo Brazzaville, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Cote d’Ivoire, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Papua New Guinea, Senegal, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe, promoting education, leadership and livelihoods from digital literacy and vocational training to sports and social cohesion, helping people to prosper.
