President Bola Tinubu has made a series of new appointments and re-appointments in four federal educational institutions, including the National Examinations Council, National Council for Technical Education, Federal Polytechnic N’yak-Shendam and the National Library of Nigeria.
For NECO, Tinubu appointed Prof. Modupe Adeola Adelabu as Chairman of the Board of Directors, while retaining the current Chancellor, Prof. Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi. Adelabu, a retired professor of educational administration of Obafemi Awolowo University, previously served as deputy governor of Ekiti state between 2013 and 2014 and chaired the NBTE from 2018 to 2021.
The President appointed Prof. Babatunde Salako as President of the NBTE. Salako, described as a globally respected researcher, served as director general of the Nigerian Medical Research Institute from 2016 to 2024, during which time the institute saw expanded international collaborations and improved research governance.
On April 10, Tinubu separately reappointed Prof. Idris M. Bugaje as executive secretary of the NBTE for a second and final five-year term.
At the Federal Polytechnic N’yak-Shendam in Plateau State, Eng. Dr. Bongfa Binfa was appointed as Rector for a single term of five years. Binfa, who holds a PhD in mechanical engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, previously served as vice-chancellor (academic) at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny.
He succeeds Dr Mukaila Zakari Ya’u, whose term expired on 16 March 2026. His appointment followed a public publicity exercise conducted in September 2025.

Tinubu also renewed the appointment of Prof. Chinwe Veronica Anunobi as Director General of the National Library of Nigeria for a final term of five years.
First appointed in September 2021, Anunobi has overseen several reforms that reposition the library as a technology-driven institution, including the development of the National Archives of Nigeria and the National Virtual Library.
The renovation is expected to ensure continuity of ongoing reforms and completion of the library headquarters project in Abuja.
