ULFA applauds Akpabio’s selection of Senator Ede Dafinone as chairman of the Federal Committee on Character

The Urhobo Leadership Forum Abuja (ULFA) has congratulated the Senator representing Delta Central, Ede Dafinone, on his appointment as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Federal Character and Intergovernmental Affairs, describing it as a timely push for equity and inclusion.

In a statement signed by ULFA President Olorogun (Dr) Peter Igho, MFR, the Forum described the appointment of Senate President Godswill Akpabio as recognition of the growing profile and impact of the first-term Senator in Delta Central.

●“Most Sensitive Committee”

“We join many of your admirers in congratulating you on this appointment to this very sensitive committee of the Senate,” the ULFA said, promising “solidarity and unwavering support” to the MP.

The Forum said the role was vital to ensuring “balance and fairness in federal government appointments” and opening up opportunities for “deserving young men and women”.

The Senate Committee on Federal Character and Intergovernmental Affairs monitors compliance with the principle of Nigeria’s federal character, the constitutional mandate for equitable distribution of places and resources among states and ethnic groups. Chairmanship of the committee places Senator Delta Central at the center of debates over nominations, federal positions and intergovernmental relations.

ULFA said the appointment “has come at the right time to strengthen your rating in the Senate” and noted that the Senator’s activities have “a very positive impact on the lives of our people” in Delta Central.

The Forum wished the Senator a successful tenure as he takes over the leadership of the committee.

The Senate President announced the chairmanship of the committees earlier this week as part of the legislative framework of the 10th National Assembly.
