The decision comes at a symbolic time for Ghana, which will celebrate its 70th anniversary of independence later that year, adding historical significance to the tournament.

The tournament, which will feature 12 teams, remains one of the most important development platforms in Africa, as it serves as a direct qualification route for the FIFA U-20 World Cup, in which the four best teams obtain places for the global event.
CAF’s decision also highlights Ghana’s consistent track record in producing elite football talent. Over the years, their Under-20 system has nurtured players who have excelled at international level, including Michael Essien, Sulley Muntari, Andre Ayew and Stephen Appiah. .
Notably, Ghana remains the first African country to win the FIFA U-20 World Cup, achieving the feat in 2009, a milestone that continues to underline its pedigree in youth football.
The next edition follows the 2025 tournament hosted by Egypt, where South Africa emerged champions, reflecting the growing competitiveness in African youth football.
CAF is expected to announce further details on match dates, host cities and venues for the 2027 tournament in due course, as preparations begin for what is expected to be a landmark event in Ghana’s sporting calendar.
