Yayi secures Iyabo Obasanjo’s support ahead of 2027 poll

Former Ogin State governorship aspirant, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, has declared his support for the consensus state governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, ahead of the 2027 elections, ordering his supporters to rally for his victory.

Iyabo Obasanjo, a former senator, made the pledge during a strategic meeting with Yayi at the Olusegun Osoba Hilltop residence in Abeokuta, where both political figures discussed party unity, reconciliation and consolidation of support following Yayi’s emergence as the flag bearer of the APC consensus.

The effort, described as part of ongoing internal consultations within the party, aims to strengthen cohesion among stakeholders who had previously indicated interest in the governorship race before a consensual agreement was adopted.

Yayi, in his remarks, appreciated Iyabo Obasanjo for his initial goodwill and political support, describing his support as significant to the success of his campaign and broader electoral strategy.

He assured that his administration, if elected, will remain open to contributions from all stakeholders, stressing that inclusiveness and unity will define its approach to governance and inter-party relations.

“I want to assure you that I am here as the son of the family. We will work together,” Yayi said.

“Soon after my emergency, you congratulated me and I was really excited. I am ready to align with your vision. Your manifesto and political direction will be part of our broader agenda.

“I will be available at every opportunity. One, two or three people from your team will be integrated into the structure of my campaign. No one will be left behind,” he added.

He further stressed that consolidating unity within the APC remains central to his political strategy ahead of the 2027 governorship elections.

In his response, Iyabo Obasanjo said he had already tasked his supporters to work towards the success of Yayi’s governorship ambition, promising a structured mobilization on his behalf among political blocs aligned to his network.

“I have already charged my supporters to work for the success of the APC governorship candidate, Adeola. We will fully support him and ensure mobilization for his victory,” he said.
