Police capture 3 suspected bandits, recover stolen cattle in Sokoto


Sokoto Police have arrested 3 suspected armed bandits in Tangaza Local Government of Sokoto State.

This is contained in a press release issued to journalists in Sokoto by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmed Rufa’i.

He said officers in Gidan Madi received credible information from some good Samaritans and accordingly swung into action, intensified patrols and conducted stop and search operations along the Tangaza-Gidan Madi road.

As a result, three suspects were arrested, namely: Aliyu Bello, 30 years old, Dahiru Umar, 25 years old, and Bashar Isah Yusuf, 29 years old.

He said all three suspects were residents of Kwazari village, Kware Local Government Area of ​​the state.

He further revealed that items recovered from the suspects during a search included a bag hidden inside another bag, which contained the following items: a manufactured AK-47 rifle, an AK-47 magazine and 17 rounds of AK-47 ammunition.

Similarly, the command also foiled cattle thefts in Gidan Bubu, Wamakko Local Government Area.

He said the police on May 3, at 004 hours, received credible information that a large number of armed bandits brandishing sophisticated weapons had invaded Gidan Bubu village, Wamakko LGA, shooting sporadically.

He said that soon after receiving the information, operatives of the anti-kidnapping unit mobilized a tactical team and swung into action, tracking the bandits into Gidan Gawe forest in Silame Local Government Area.

He further said that upon sighting the police, the bandits opened fire but were overwhelmed due to the police team’s superior firepower, abandoning their rustled cattle and fleeing into the nearby forest with varying degrees of gunshot wounds.

He said 19 cattle were recovered as exhibits while efforts were underway to trace and arrest the absconding suspects.
