APC passes Hamzat for Lagos gubernatorial primary election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship screening committee on Saturday gave the go-ahead to the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, to contest for the party’s governorship ticket in 2027 in the state.

Hamzat confirmed this in a post on his X account after he appeared before the 11-member committee in Abuja.

This committee is led by Dr. Benjamin Nwoye.

Hamzat described this exercise as transparent, deliberate and extraordinary.

He wrote: “Today in Abuja, I appeared before the APC Governorship Vetting Committee ahead of our party’s primaries.

“I am grateful for a clean bill of consent to move forward.”

The deputy governor said his ambition was based on service and continuity, adding that the current administration had laid a strong foundation for the state’s growth.

“This trip is about service and commitment to all Lagosians.

“We have built a solid foundation, and we are now ready to take the next step towards a greater and more inclusive Lagos.

“The work continues, and I am ready to move forward with you,” he added.

APC began selling expression of interest and nomination forms on April 28, with candidate screening scheduled from May 6 to May 9.

The APC gubernatorial primary election will be held on May 21.
