INEC seeks stronger partnership with media on voter education and election preparedness in Ondo

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Ondo State, Dr Mutiu Agboke, has called for enhanced collaboration between the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and media organizations in the state to improve voter education and deepen public awareness ahead of the upcoming election activities.

Agboke made the appeal on Tuesday during a courtesy visit to Fresh FM’s Akure studio where he met with the station’s General Manager, Mr Dokun Ladele, alongside members of the INEC management team in the state.

The visit focused on major election programmes, including Phase III of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, preparations for the Ondo South by-elections, the ongoing political party primaries and early preparatory works towards the 2027 general elections.

The REC stressed that sustained voter education remains critical to strengthening Nigeria’s democratic process, stressing that media platforms play a strategic role in bridging the information gap between the commission and the electorate.

He therefore urged Fresh FM and other media organizations to intensify collaboration with INEC in raising awareness among citizens on electoral procedures, voter participation and civic responsibility.

In her response, Ladele described Dr Agboke as a “media-friendly REC”, commending his constant engagement with stakeholders in the communications sector.

Ladele also advocated for deeper collaboration between INEC and Fresh FM, particularly through greater participation of commission officials in the station’s programs to further enlighten the public on electoral issues.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing efforts to promote credible elections and strengthen citizens’ participation in the democratic process.
