Nollywood actresses Ruth Kadiri and Funke Akindele have paid emotional tribute to actor Alex Ekubo following reports of his death after an alleged long battle with cancer.
Taking to Instagram, Ruth Kadiri shared a heartfelt message along with a video of the late actor, revealing that she had long been afraid of losing him. According to him, he regularly checked on Ekubo before he died.
“Very tough day. I made sure to check in regularly… I was worried about this day… but it finally came,” she wrote. “Rest well Alexxβ¦and God give your family the heart to bear the loss. Sleep well IKUKU.”
His tribute sparked emotional reactions from fans and colleagues, many of whom flooded the comments section with messages of condolence and prayers for the actor’s family.
Funke Akindele also mourned the actor on his Instagram Story, sharing details of their last conversation and expressing regret that he never saw him again before his death.

“I really tried to contact you once again, but it seems like you know best. May your kind soul rest in peace Alex,” he wrote.
In another post, the actress revealed that he kept sending her voicemails and messages while she repeatedly assured him that she was fine.
“It’s so hard. Chai. Reading all the messages I send. You keep telling me you’re okay. I keep sending voice notes. Alex. Chai. God knows best,” Funke wrote. “I really want to meet you!!! You said we would meet soon. You scared me. Chai. Get a good rest or MI.”
Reports of Ekubo’s death continue to generate widespread reactions on social media, although official details surrounding his death remain limited.
