Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the FIFA World Cup simply means the team was not good enough to play in the tournament, according to former Super Eagles striker Obinna Nsofor.
Speaking on the debate over the quality of the current Super Eagles squad, Nsofor insisted that qualification remains the ultimate test of a team’s level.
“If you didn’t qualify for the World Cup it means you are not good to play in the World Cup, that’s the truth and we shouldn’t paint it, it’s that simple,” Nsofor told Brila.net.
He further explained that even football giants can be judged by the same criteria if they fail to qualify for the world tournament.
“If Brazil didn’t qualify for the World Cup, it shows that you’re not good enough to play in it, it’s the truth.”

The former Super Eagles star also highlighted DR Congo’s recent performances as proof that qualification is earned.
“The Democratic Republic of the Congo beat us and then they beat Jamaica. Will they say they are not good enough to play in the World Cup? They are good enough because they played in the qualifiers and now they are in the World Cup.
“They have quality players to play in the tournament, that’s the fact that we don’t paint things from left to right.”
Nsofor represented Nigeria at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
The former striker played a key role during Nigeria’s qualifying campaign for the 2010 World Cup, scoring twice against Kenya in a decisive qualifying match in November 2009.
