Argentina Stop England Dream of a final Since 1966 – THIS AGE

England’s dream of reaching their first men’s World Cup final since 1966 was dealt a major blow at the hands of defending champions Argentina on Wednesday night at the Atlanta Stadium in the United States.

A 55th-minute goal from Anthony Gordon had kept the Three Lions’ hopes alive until the decisive moments of the thrilling semi-final match, when Lautaro Martinez scored an assist from Lionel Messi from outside the area to equalize for Argentina in the 85th minute.

With that crucial opening, Argentina kept up the pressure. It paid off when substitute Enzo Fernandez headed home another Messi assist in the 90±2 minutes.

Argentina will face Spain in Sunday’s final, while England will face France in the third-place match on Saturday.
