Troops kill 20 ISWAP fighters in new offensive in Borno

Defense Headquarters said on Monday at least 20 ISIS West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters were killed in coordinated airstrikes in the Metele general area of ​​Borno State.

Director of Defense Information, Maj. Gen. Samaila Uba, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Abuja.

Uba said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and deny them a safe haven in the country.

He added that the raid, carried out in collaboration with the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), was carried out based on credible intelligence regarding the movement and convergence of terrorist elements in the region.

According to him, this latest attack followed a previous operation which resulted in the killing of a senior ISIS commander, Abu-Bilal al-Minuki.

The spokesperson stressed that the ongoing offensive aims to weaken terrorist capabilities, disrupt their operations, and maintain pressure on insurgent groups in the Northeast region.

“The Nigerian Armed Forces will continue to aggressively defend the sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of the country,” he said.

Uba said his troops would continue to pursue all terrorist elements that threaten society and warned that “there will be no safe haven for terrorists anywhere in Nigeria.”

He reaffirmed the military’s commitment to sustained air and ground operations in collaboration with international partners to restore lasting peace in the affected areas.
