Former SSG Wali wins APC governorship ticket in Yobe

Former Secretary to the Yobe State Government, Alhaji Baba Malam Wali, has won the All Progressives Congress APC gubernatorial primary in the state.

Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Muttaqha Darma, who served as election officer, announced the results on Friday in Damaturu.

He said Wali polled 236,711 votes to beat his closest rival, Dr. Abubakar Kagu, who received 9,748 votes.

Darma said Bashir Machina got 1,894 votes, Yunusa Mustapha 1,178 votes, Hamidu Alhaji 1,722 votes, while Yunusa Mohammed and Maaji Modu got 1,148 and 1,372 votes respectively.

“That Baba Malam Wali, having fulfilled the constitutional requirements and guidelines of the APC and obtained the highest number of votes is hereby declared the winner of the primaries and re-elected as the party’s gubernatorial candidate for Yobe,” the returning officer said.

In his acceptance speech, Wali thanked Governor Mai Mala Buni, Alhaji Ibrahim Geidam, the Minister of Police and the leadership of the party for their overwhelming support.

He urged his six opponents to provide support and cooperation in the interests of the country.

The candidate pledged to continue the legacy projects and programs of Buni and Geidam, whom he described as his mentors.
