Police arrested three members of a criminal syndicate in Lagos

Police operatives attached to the Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, have arrested three members of a criminal syndicate that stole motorbikes in Lagos and Ogun States.

This was disclosed by the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2, Mr Olohundare Jimoh in a statement issued by the Zone spokesperson, DSP Gbenga Afolayan, Wednesday in Lagos.

Jimoh also revealed that five stolen motorbikes were recovered during the operation.

He said the breakthrough followed intensive investigations into the activities of a notorious gang that specializes in stealing motorbikes in the Sagamu and Ijebu Ode areas of Ogun.

“The operation was launched after an official petition dated April 12 was submitted to the zonal headquarters regarding the activities of the syndicate.

“Investigations revealed that the gang stole motorbikes in Sagamu and Ijebu Ode, before selling them to buyers in Ogere, Ojodu Berger, Mushin and some other areas of the country.

“Operation ‘Dragon Team’ Zone 2 then initiated surveillance and intelligence gathering to track syndicate members and uncover their operational network.

“Officers carried out an ambush around the Sagamu Interchange area on May 19, which resulted in the arrest of three suspects aged 26, 29 and 48 years,” he said.

AIG said initial investigations indicate that the syndicate and two other suspects currently at large specialize in motorbike theft in the early hours of the morning, usually between 1am and 4am.

“The gang also pulled motorbikes from where they were parked, before they pried open the steering system and manipulated electrical cables to start the engine,” he added.
