EFCC exposes fake EFCC personnel in Abuja – THISAGE

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, arraigned one Salifu Olije Mustapha before Justice AI Akobi of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Kubwa, for allegedly posing and parading as an official of the Commission

He was arraigned on four counts bordering on impersonation and making false statements.

Count two of the charge reads:

“That you, Salifu Olije Mustapha, in March 2026, under the jurisdiction of this honorable court, while falsely pretending to be an officer of the Nigerian Air Force, favored the couple of Abubakar (now at large) and Haruna Mamuda (currently under investigation with another law enforcement agency, by transporting them fully dressed in the operational uniforms of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission as agents of the Commission in a Toyota Corolla with registration number KTU399GT to Sheriff Plaza, Wuse II, Abuja for defrauding unsuspecting members of the public and thereby committing an offense contrary to Section 84(c) and punishable under Section 132 of the Penal Code Act”

The third count reads: “That you, Salifu Olije Mustapha, in March 2026, within the jurisdiction of this honorable court, impersonated a public servant by falsely representing yourself as an officer of the Nigerian Air Force and in that purported persona defrauded unsuspecting members of the public and thereby committed an offense contrary to and punishable under section 132 of the Penal Code Act”

The accused pleaded guilty to all four charges when they were read to him, prompting the prosecuting lawyer, RU Adaga, to pray to the court to find him guilty and sentence him accordingly.

Justice Akobi subsequently adjourned the matter to June 1, 2026 for sentencing of the defendant.

Mustapha was arrested by EFCC operatives following useful information linking him to impersonating EFCC officers. He was specifically spotted in a fake EFCC uniform, along with two other suspects, harassing motorists and defrauding them in the process.
